VSNL International completes major 10 Gig IP backbone upgrade

VSNL Singapore Pte Ltd., the international arm of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd., announced today the completion of a 10 Gig upgrade to 21 of its global IP backbone locations throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

The upgraded network is based on the Cisco IP Next-Generation Network (IP NGN)architecture and contains Cisco 12000 Series and 7600 Series routers.

The three-month upgrade project also included a 50% transatlantic increase of capacity to support additional traffic.

Vinod Kumar, president of VSNL International said the new network will support critical next generation services such as MPLS and IPv6.
