Berkeley Research Group (BRG), a provider of intellectual property and technology asset valuation services, this week released the first in a series of white papers that will address the critical issues surrounding IPv4 migration.

In the first installment BRG examines the use of Network Address Translation systems as a long-term solution to the impending IPv4 address shortage.

Key areas addressed include:

* Tests of NAT systems indicate unreliability in transferring data

* Bandwidth usage and transparency are problematic under NATs

* New usage trends for mobile devices highlight additional problems with NATs

* Increased data traffic and continued reliance on carrier-grade NATs

“BRG’s white paper series offers a comprehensive understanding of the impending global IPv4 address shortage, the strains this will put on the Internet services environment over the coming months, and potential solutions,” said BRG Director Gregory Nachtwey. “The NAT paper takes a closer look at one’s ability to rely on NATs as an acceptable alternative or substitute for a dedicated IPv4 address.”

Further information on the white paper is available at www.brg-expert.com.
