Globalstar Inc. announced this week that all of its second generation satellites are now in full commercial service.
The new satellites, which are designed to last for 15 years, twice the lifespan of Globalstar's first-generation satellites, will support the company's current lineup of voice, duplex and simplex data products and services, including its SPOT-branded consumer products which have initiated over 2,200 rescues in over 70 countries and at sea since the initial introduction in 2007. SPOT stands for Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre. In English that translates into Satellite for observation of Earth.
Global customer segments served by the company include oil and gas, government, mining, forestry, commercial fishing, utilities, military, transportation, heavy construction, emergency preparedness, and business continuity as well as individual recreational users.
Globalstar Canada Satellite Co. was established in 1999 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc. Headquartered in Mississauga, Ont., the company has 32 employees located in Halifax, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
