T8 LLC, a Russian dense wavelength division multiplexing vendor, and Corning Incorporated recently demonstrated a DWDM system transmitting 100 Gbit/s per channel over 500 km of Corning SMF-28 ULL optical fiber without the use of regenerators or erbium doped fiber amplifiers.

According to Corning, the combination allows service providers and enterprises to drive new efficiencies by extending the unrepeated reach of high-capacity transmission over long distances without expensive regeneration.
